As well as being awarded a grant for the project from The Heritage Lottery Fund, we are committed to working with a number of key partners on this project. Each partner will support the project by providing important knowledge, skills, expertise, experience and resources to When Yesterday Was Young. All activities will be to empower young people in supporting the work of the project in their own communities.
Beamish Museum
Over a century of living history awaits you at Beamish Museum. Originally the vision of Dr Frank Atkinson, the Museum’s founder and first director. Frank wanted the new museum to “illustrate vividly” the way of life of “ordinary people” and bring the region’s history alive. Beamish remains true to his principles today and brings history to life for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Beamish Museum will be supporting the project with resources and specialist workshops.
The National Coal Mining Museum for England
The National Coal Mining Museum for England aims to keep coal mining alive by collecting and preserving the industry’s rich heritage, creating enjoyable and inspiring ways to learn for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
The National Coal Mining Museum for England will be supporting the project with experiences for young people and performance opportunities.
